Philosophy/Design
Sculptural design for MINI enthusiasts With the new MI3 light alloy wheel, AC Schnitzer is making a powerful statement in the world of exclusive MINI refinement. Its world premiere marks a milestone in design, technology, and customization. Even at first glance, the MI3 wheel attracts all eyes: the progressive, geometrically structured Y-spoke design resembles a modern sculpture. The interlocking architecture of angular, partly asymmetrical surfaces is reminiscent of a tech-inspired spider web structure – a design feature that visually perfectly combines dynamism, precision, and lightness. The striking pentagonal hub cap reflects the AC Schnitzer brand design and is a deliberate nod to the brand's iconic wheel models. As a special highlight, each wheel bears the lasered AC Schnitzer logo – subtle but unmistakable.

Only high-quality aluminum alloys with the AlSi7 or AlSi11 specifications are used. Both materials undergo additional heat treatment during production, resulting in increased strength while simultaneously reducing weight. Material samples taken during the manufacturing process ensure consistent, high-quality material.

Steps on the Road to Perfection: A high-quality cast blank is essential for a perfect and long-lasting wheel. AC Schnitzer uses the low-pressure casting process to produce it. The aluminum alloy is pressed into a multi-part casting mold at a pressure of up to 1.2 bar. After cooling to approximately 400 degrees Celsius, the mold is opened, and the cast blank is ready for further processing. This involves machining and a complex painting process. X-ray inspections, leak tests, and the application of various measuring methods throughout the entire production process ensure the consistent, high quality of the wheel.

Surface glossy black
In this process, the wheel is first primed, then completely painted. A two-layer clear coat is then applied, consisting of a polyester primer and a matte acrylic clear coat.

Testing procedures/safety
After their design, the first sample rims are manufactured under real production conditions. These must undergo a multitude of tests. Among other things, their strength is tested. The bending test simulates the "rim lifespan." Every AC Schnitzer rim must survive this lifespan unscathed in order to be produced and sold. Vehicle-specific tests, including test installations with clearance measurements and driving tests on public roads and racetracks, follow. Only after these procedures do our rims receive homologation, i.e., approval for use on public roads. Wheels are safety-critical components. Therefore, they are inspected and tested with the utmost care. This begins with initial chemical material tests and concludes with rigorous endurance tests on testing machines: - §30 StVZO Wheel Directive - ECE R124 - Bending tests - 90° impact test - Rolling tests
